The Economics of JDM Imports: A Data-Driven Approach

Software development is my primary trade, but the logistics and economics of importing Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) vehicles present a fascinating data problem. I recently sat down to build out detailed financial pipeline spreadsheets to evaluate the local market viability for imported cars.

The import business is heavily reliant on understanding the fluctuating customs duties, freight charges, and auction sheet verifications. By mapping the price structures and local ROI margins into a programmatic spreadsheet, I was able to turn a highly subjective, intuition-based market into a predictable formula.

Whether you are optimizing a backend Node application or calculating the profit margins of a Honda Vezel landing in a local port, the underlying principle is the same: gather the data, account for the variables, and automate the analysis.
